About Crystal Ivie
Crystal has always known hardship. Born into a family that struggled to make ends meet, Crystal grew up surrounded by food insecurity, foster care placements, and caring for her younger siblings. Fortunately, Crystal’s grandmother imparted to her the key to interrupt the cycle of poverty and chaos- the importance of an education.
Crystal took that lesson to heart and carried it with her all the way through graduate school where she found a passion for STEM education. The pursuit of these academic and subsequent career goals indeed gave her an opportunity to escape a life of poverty, and now Crystal believes wholeheartedly that every person deserves the same opportunities.
Crystal has now worked for nearly 20 years as a lecturer and adjunct professor in Biological Sciences. She also volunteers in the community as a resource to bring high quality STEM education to children in the state of Idaho.
Along the various journeys her life has taken her, Crystal has befriended a myriad of people from all walks of life that have inspired her to speak up and stand for what’s right. Crystal relies on these values to live a joyful and meaningful life as a wife and mother, and as an educator.
Crystal moved to Idaho in 2014. She has been here for over seven years, and embraces abundant natural beauty, the plentiful parks in the area, and the belief in hard work that prevails. Crystal’s husband and both sides of his family are Idaho natives from the Magic Valley with a long family history in the state, and a deep love for all the things that Idaho has to offer for both family and fun.
